Do you think the improved domain trust you noticed was purely from the quantity of those links, or did you see any "high-quality" news sites actually pick up the story manually?

Regarding this experiment with the PR, it's difficult to know for sure what was the impact in isolation, because at that time I also started posting articles more frequently in my blog and acquiring some backlinks directly. But I've just taken another look at the backlink profile and I can see that I indeed gained a bunch of backlinks from the PR article, although the majority of them are nofollow. And I don't think there was any manually picked one by a high-quality news website. Only distributed ones as I can see. The "strongest" one has DA 55 and DR 62, which is not bad in my case.
